About New Ramsar Site
- Glaw Lake in Arunachal Pradesh has been designated as India’s 101st Ramsar Site.
- India’s Ramsar network from 26 sites in 2014 to 101 in 2026.
- It is a freshwater lake situated within the Kamlang Tiger Reserve and Wildlife Sanctuary in the Eastern Himalayas.
- More than 150 tree species and 49 orchid species have been recorded within the wetland.
- It is designated as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA).
Ramsar Convention?
- It is an intergovernmental treaty that provides the framework for the conservation and wise use of wetlands (maintenance of their ecological character) and their resources.
- This Convention is adopted by India 2 feb.1971 (came into force in 1975).
- Membership: 172 contracting parties. (India ratified in 1982)
- Total Ramsar sites in India: 101
