Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

Citizenship & Domicile:

Candidates must be Indian citizens. While domicile in Uttar Pradesh is not mandatory, it is essential for availing reserved category benefits under state quotas.

Age Limit:

The age of candidates is calculated as on July 1, 2026. The minimum age required is 21 years, and the maximum age is 40 years. Age relaxation is available for reserved categories (SC, ST, OBC) as per Uttar Pradesh Government rules.

Educational Qualification:

Exam Pattern: Understanding the Three Stages

PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION

The Preliminary Examination serves as a screening test. Paper I (200 marks) covers General Studies while Paper II CSAT (200 marks) is qualifying in nature. Negative marking of 1/3rd is applicable. Both papers are held on the same day with 2 hours duration each.

Paper I Syllabus:

Current Affairs, History, Geography, Indian Polity & Governance, Economic Development, Science & Technology, and Environment

MAIN EXAMINATION

The Main Examination consists of 8 compulsory papers totaling 1,200 marks. Each paper is worth 100-300 marks and has 3 hours duration. Optional subjects have been removed; instead, two UP-specific General Studies papers have been introduced.

Mains Papers:

  • Paper I: Hindi (100 marks)
  • Paper II: Essay (100 marks)
  • Papers III-VI: General Studies (300 marks each)
  • Paper VII: Uttar Pradesh-Specific Issues (200 marks)
  • Paper VIII: Ethics and Integrity (100 marks)

INTERVIEW

The interview carries 100 marks and is the final stage of selection. It assesses personality, communication skills, general awareness, problem-solving ability, leadership qualities, and overall suitability for civil service. The interview is conducted at UPPSC Headquarters in Prayagraj.

Visit the UPPSC OTR Portal and generate your unique registration number. OTR must be completed at least 72 hours before applying.

Log in using your OTR number, select PCS 2026, and fill all required personal and educational details.
